We moved into our office located in the Van Nelle Design Factory in May 2008. We are very happy with this special location; the innovative, unique and transparent nature of the Van Nelle Factory fits with who we are: PMtD is at home in Rotterdam.

 

In the late twenties, the director of Van Nelle Factory had a modern building built along the Schie, on the edge of the working class neighbourhood Spangen. The factory where coffee, tea and tobacco were processed is a perfect example of the Modern Movement, an innovative movement in urban development and architecture. The design is entirely based around the functionality of the factory, in which features that contributed to a healthy working environment and welfare of employees were included. This architectural interpretation suited the progressive socio-economic view of this period.

 

The architecture of the Van Nelle Factory has made it world-famous. From the early nineties the factory lost its function and became a cultural heritage, even gaining a place on the ‘World Heritage List’. Currently, the Van Nelle Design Factory has a new role housing companies in the creative sector and ICT, including PMtD. We are very proud of our special home.
